I've been thinking about entering in a 5k run/walk, I will be walking, but they haven't had one around here that I could participate in because of my work schedule so,
I found one that is on July 4th for the Ronald McDonald House and since it is a Holiday I will be off work! So I'm gonna do it!!!!!!!!!
Anyone in the area wanna Join me....??

my boss is doing the firecracker! her and her husband do one everyone weekend! She said this is the hottest one there is (temperature wise)! So take a cooler in your car and freeze some washrags for afterwards! My first 5k was the one lakeview puts on every April. It was great bc it was a little smaller and I knew lots of people there. And dont say "Im just walking it"...bc as one guy told me as he ran past a group of us walkers "If it was easy ladies...everyone would do it!" What time do you want to finish in? There arent usually a lot of young walkers so you may even place and win something depending on the age brackets! Its a great motivator. I will be out town that weekend but GO FOR IT!
I really dont know what time I want to finish In I havent really thought about it yet, me and my mom are going to do it togeather hopefully if she doesnt wimp out on me, But Im super excited and thanks for the advice I have never done one before so yea it helps! I really dont care if I place or not I just want to be able to finish honestly. what time did you finish in? were you walking fast??
I practiced for about 5 weeks prior. I started walking 1 mile and then added .5 miles each week until I was up to 3 miles. When I would do that, I would aim for 3.2 miles under 60 minutes. My boss said to aim for that. The fastest I ever did in practice was about 59 minutes. When I did the race though I finished in 53 minutes and took second place in my age group (25-29). I was walking as fast as my stubby legs could carry me...i was terrified of finishing last!
PHEWWW...I Better get started...Ive been doing the Elliptical after work everyday and I do about a mile on that in 30 minutes I know thats totally diffrent but thats what ive been doing since after surgery. I dont know if Im getting in over my head or not...ahhhh now im nervous. lol
No. Dont be nervous! There were people that were behind my by at least 10 minutes. Just do it. Set a goal. You will go faster in the 5k than when you practice. Just time yourself on the treadmill and see where you are! You have several weeks. And you will feel amazing when you do it. Another girl from my work did it with us that day and she had never done or and had never practiced. She probably weighs around 260...anyways she finished just seconds behind me. You can do it! There are people of all shapes, sizes, and ages that do these 5ks!
OK. OK. now im not freaking out as much...lol its just a big step ya know :oP
but I am real excited...
its at 730am on the 4th so hopefully its not super duper freakin hot but who knows...
46 pounds is amazing!
Me? a wimp? naaah... I've just gotta get walking now, so I can get used to it, and I won't give out in the heat later!
